DVD 1 - Dressage Training - Vol. 1-3: From novice to elementary level

Volume 1: The basic training of young horses - 26 mins.

World Champion Dr. Reiner Klimke: „The basic training of young horses is meant to establish a sound basis for the future training. The horse should get used to the rider’s aids and to the rider’s instructions that it is supple, in rhythm, engaged and straight. This is the goal of basic training.”

Volume 2: Working towards elementary level - 29 mins.
World Champion Dr. Reiner Klimke: „Following the basic training of approx. one year, the horse will be introduced to the exercises of elementary level. It is now five years old. Contact with the bit and suppleness will be improved, we teach the horse to adapt to the curb bit and train exercises at elementary level.

Volume 3: The training of the horse at elementary level - 27 mins.

World Champion Dr. Reiner Klimke: „After the horse has reached elementary level, it is important to consolidate the skills learned. The individual exercises have to be accomplished safely, and the horse will mature and improve collection.”

DVD 2 -
Dressage Training - Vol. 4-6: From medium to advanced level

Volume 4: Working towards medium level - 35 mins.
World and Olympic Champion Dr. Reiner Klimke: „Between the fifth and sixth year, the dressage horse is started to be taught the basics of medium level exercises. We train the horse’s suppleness on both sides with lateral movements. The horse learns the flying changes in the canter. Collection and impulsion are improved. The horse grows into this training level.”

Volume 5: The training of the horse at medium level - 30 mins.
World and Olympic Champion Dr. Reiner Klimke: „If the horse is used to accomplish the medium level exercises, it starts to mature into this level. One year is necessary to sufficiently develop well-shaped muscles that lead to even more expressive movements with even more presence and self-confidence. The rider’s aids are less obvious. The horse gains self-confidence.”

Volume 6: Working towards advanced level - 39 mins.

World and Olympic Champion Dr. Reiner Klimke: “Between the sixth and seventh year, a properly trained dressage horse will be able to accomplish the exercises of advanced level. The standards required at this level gradually change from Prix St. Georges to Grand Prix de Dressage. In Prix St. Georges, the horse’s suitability for the classical dressage lessons should become obvious, and the appropriate exercises to reach this goal are lateral movements in the trot and canter, canter changes at different paces and half pirouettes in the canter. The horse’s expressive movement should reflect its proper gymnastic training.”

DVD 3 - Dressage Training - Vol.  7+8: From Prix St. Georges to Intermédiaire II

Volume 7: From Prix St. Georges to Intermédiaire I - 29 mins.

World and Olympic Champion Dr. Reiner Klimke: „At the age of seven, the horse should gradually start to be trained towards the more difficult lessons of Intermédiaire II-level. The training has to be carefully adapted so as to prevent any detrimental consequences on the horse’s health. The exercises of Intermédiare I-level are most suitable in this respect. Half pass zigzag in the canter, pirouettes and flying canter changes in two different tempi are the core of the canter work. Work in the trot and in the walk corresponds to Prix St. Georges-level.”

Volume 8: The training schedule from Intermédiaire I to Intermédiaire II - 41 mins.
World and Olympic Champion Dr. Reiner Klimke: „Between the seventh and eighth year, the last preparatory exercise for the Grand Prix de Dressage is trained. We collect the horse in half steps to come to the piaffe. We train the flying canter changes from step to step. Now the horse has to show up whether it has the potential to accomplish the Grand Prix de Dressage.”

DVD 4 - Dressage Training - Vol. 9+10: The work of the Grand Prix-horse

Volume 9: The work of the Grand Prix-horse - 44 mins.
World and Olympic Champion Dr. Reiner Klimke: „With the Grand Prix de Dressage, the training of the dressage horses progresses towards its final goal. Piaffe and passage including the transitions are meant to reflect the horse’s maturity for the classical high school exercises. Half-pass zigzag, pirouettes and flying changes from step to step are the distinctive exercises at this stage of training. The horse unfolds its full capacities and confidently follows its rider’s harmonious aids.”

Volume 10: Working towards Grand Prix Special - 33 mins.
World and Olympic Champion Dr. Reiner Klimke: „The Grand Prix Special imposes high demands on horse and rider. Impulsion, expression, ease, harmony and elegance strive towards completion. Dressage riding develops into an art form.”
