Werth, Isabell & Schulten-Baumer, Dr. Uwe

This video, with Isabell Werth and Dr. Uwe Schulten-Baumer Senior, first appeared 20 years ago, but was out of print for many years. The digitally remastered, new edition is a very special document that gives a rare insight into the work of one of the most successful trainers of the turn of the century. A legend in his own lifetime, “the Doctor”, as he was known, comments on his star pupil, Isabell Werth, as she works with several horses at different levels of training, from a young horse from an auction to a Grand Prix horse.

Product Description

Dr. Schulten-Baumer Sen. based his training concept on “working with the horse and not against it”, culminating in contented and sparkling horses. The DVD from 1996 shows clips of the horses’ everyday work at his Schulten-Baumer dressage centre, which was world-famous at the time. With instruction and commentary by the “Doctor”, Isabell Werth shows how to introduce even young horses to and prepare them for dressage exercises. Rider and trainer were a successful partnership for 15 years, but Dr. Schulten-Baumer was unable to experience all of the later successes of Isabell Werth, who had since risen to become the most successful Olympic rider in the world. He died in 2014, aged 88 years.

Dr. Uwe Schulten-Baumer, a gifted trainer, guided his son Uwe, Nicole Uphoff and Isabell Werth to become the best in the world, at his yard in Rheinberg, Germany. He bought all of the horses he trained as youngsters and trained them up to Grand Prix level. He was awarded the title of Reitmeister by Deutsche Reiterliche Vereinigung, the German Equestrian Federation, in 2005.

Isabell Werth is now the world’s all-time most successful dressage rider. When the video was recorded, she was already a multiple European champion, world champion and Olympic champion. Her passion was and still is training and bringing on young horses to international Grand Prix dressage, a passion that she can now enjoy at her own equestrian centre in Rheinberg. The gifted rider can look back at a total of ten Olympic, nine world championship and 18 European championship medals, as well as eleven German championship titles.
